Frequently Asked Questions

There are many reasons people choose acupuncture, and each person has their own motivation. Common reasons include:

• Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of treatment.
• It takes a holistic approach, aiming to support balance and overall well-being in the body.
• It can help address symptoms that may not have a clear explanation in Western medical diagnosis.
• It may also be considered when other approaches have not provided sufficient relief.

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, solid stainless steel needles. Unlike hypodermic needles, they are smooth and do not have cutting edges, which makes insertion very gentle.

Many people are surprised by how little they feel. Sensations vary from person to person and may include nothing at all, a light pinch, or a brief tingling sensation as the needle is inserted. Areas such as the hands, feet, and face can be more sensitive.

Once the needles are in place, most people feel relaxed and comfortable, and often stop noticing them altogether. Many clients describe feeling calm or even falling asleep during treatment.

The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated. Recent or acute issues often respond more quickly, while long-standing or complex conditions may require a longer course of care.

A typical initial plan may involve approximately eight sessions, although this varies from person to person. Treatments are usually scheduled once or twice per week, depending on individual needs and response.

Yes. Gentle, needle-free options are available and are often well suited for children.

For the best experience, it is recommended to arrive in a calm and relaxed state.

• Avoid very large meals immediately before your appointment, but do not come fasting for long periods. A light meal or snack an hour or so beforehand is ideal.
• Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and recreational substances before and after treatment. • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily adjusted if needed.
• Please avoid strong perfumes or scented products.

During your session, you will usually rest comfortably on a treatment table in a calm environment with soft lighting and relaxing music.

Depending on your treatment plan, acupuncture points will be gently stimulated. Additional techniques such as massage, cupping, laser therapy, ear seeds, or electroacupuncture may also be used when appropriate.

Many people experience a deep sense of relaxation during treatment, and some fall asleep. Afterward, it is common to feel relaxed, lighter, or more energized.

After your session, it is best to take it easy and allow your body time to integrate the treatment.

Light activity such as a gentle walk can be beneficial. It is generally recommended to avoid heavy meals, intense exercise, alcohol, or stressful situations immediately afterward.

In many cases, treatment can be done by simply rolling up sleeves or pant legs, as many acupuncture points are located on the arms and legs.

In some situations, such as when treating the back or legs more directly, removal of clothing down to underwear may be necessary. You will always be properly covered with sheets and blankets to ensure comfort and privacy throughout the session.

I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This helps make the time available to others. There is no cancellation fee.
